Madalynne Intimates, Maddie Flanigan
In 2016, Urban Outfitters released two exclusive lines of Madalynne Intimates. One design sold out in just a few weeks. Flanigan also started her own line of intimates, released two lingerie patterns through Simplicity and became the brand ambassador for PFAFF sewing machines.
Flanigan’s SCORE mentor, Marcy Love Abloeser, helps her brainstorm, gives her an outside perspective, and asks the tough questions that help bring Flanigan’s ideas to fruition. She has also helped Flanigan patent and trademark her designs.
Losing her mother at a young age pushed Maddie Flanigan to focus on what matters most. For Flanigan, one of those things was the joy she finds in sewing.
Starting at just 18, she pivoted from an apprenticeship with a local tailor to an internship in technical design with Urban Outfitters, and then a full-time job at the company. Meanwhile, she began hand-sewing and designing her own intimate wear – and teaching others how to do the same.
In 2015, she began collaborating with Urban Outfitters on her own line of intimates. Building on that success, she starting her own business selling both intimates and kits that allow customers to make intimates themselves. She also runs workshops on how to create your own intimate wear.
